Global Health Issues

The Maldives Mission works on a range of issues concerning health with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other related organisations. Regular engagement with the World Health Organization (WHO) remains a high priority for the Maldives.

Maldives served on the Executive Board of WHO in 2013, the Maldives has been an active participant in discussions on regional and global health issues such as neglected tropical diseases, and as a country that has maintained polio free status since 1994, Maldives participates in dialogue on eradication and immunisation of polio.

As one of the countries that has graduated from a lower income country, Maldives places high emphasis on achieving the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals. The Permanent Mission actively engaged in the World Health Assembly and the WHO High Level Political Forum 2017 with the presence of the Minster of Health and high level delegates from Ministry of Health by delivering statements and taking part in the dialogue and events of the forum around the theme of eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world.
